Module 1: Theoretical Base on Working Capital

  • Provide participants with a theoretical base on working capital as well as a global view of the Cash to Cash cycle, by introducing the concepts of DSO, DPO and DIO in a connected supply chain.
  • Profit should not be the only metric to review a company’s performance
  • EVA includes profit, the required capital and the weighted average cost of capital
  • The definition of working capital, where to find it in the balance sheet and how to calculate it
  • Commonly used ratios related to working capital and their implications
  • Introducing the key metrics: DSO / DPO / DIO
  • Focus on the impact of inventory and the role of logistics and INCO terms
  • Optimization of working capital for the firm (why to focus more on cash instead of only profit)
  • Shift from Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) to Integrated Business Planning (including Finance)
  • A sound SCF strategy underpins the overall SC strategy and enables competitive advantages
  • Internal alignment between various functions is key
  • Allow participants to exchange views on the module in small groups, to highlight main points and to start thinking about the practical use cases

Module 2: Business Simulation The Cool Connection

  • The Cool Connection is a business simulation aimed at bridging the physical and financial supply chain. This module serves as a tool to apply the theoretical base in a real life simulation.
  • (Supplier) Market Segmentation, the importance of knowing, and deciding on, who you are dealing with
  • Demand Planning / Forecasting (Focus on Finance)
  • Three stages: optimize results to comply with existing policies – optimize policies – challenge the business model
  • Supplier Relationship Management (SRM), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Risk Management
  • Working capital management in the connected supply chain
  • Supply Chain Finance strategy as a growth enabler or disabler and the relation to SRM, CRM and Risk Management
  • The implications of the ongoing Globalization in Trade
  • Trends in Technology (Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence and SCF)
  • Allow participants to exchange views on the module in small groups, to highlight main points and to start building their own action plan
